Hi again,
For the Group reunion time, I would like to use the Leaders Group Reunion sheet- it is more pertinent as to what we are doing as a Secretariat, leaders in the Movement, to promote Christ in our environments.  I will get copies of this to everyone.  We used to use these at School of Leaders meetings.  I think I still have copies of it in my files.
See you all Saturday at 8 am for Mass and then Rosary and our time together as a small group reunion/Secretariat.
My preference- I would love to use the rectory as our social space and group reunion time and then the church for Adoration and prayer time.  Thoughts?

1115 adoration and praise in church

Hi all,
Below is the response I got from Sean Hoeing this am.  Notice he says that the goal is to have Fall availability- admirable, but still leaves room for uncertainty... I have further asked him about insurance riders, so am awaiting an answer from him.  We should also ask about minimum # for attendance, if any, and if there's a contract to sign with a deposit, etc.  I see he has said that 36 bottom bunk beds are available, so that's a good # to shoot for, and needing a separate room for clergy.  I could ask if the priest center would be available for the clergy to stay there.  It's still on the campus.

We'd be providing our own meals chef/crew, so additional funds would be needed for food beyond the $25/night fee.  8 meals would probably cost about $10/pp per meal= $80 or so...Not sure what bulk food would cost these days.  I've asked for dessert donations in the past to cut down on cost, and people have been very generous to bring them.  We also need to purchase more consumable supplies for the weekends, so I'm thinking we're still at about $200/pp, plus more if we have to purchase insurance riders.  Thoughts??

Fr. Chris- what weekends in October and November do you think clergy would be most available for me to ask Sean to reserve?  I know in the past you have said that Fall is trickier than Spring, but then Advent doesn't interfere with these weekends like Lent can in the Spring.

Does anyone else have any preference/consideration for weekend dates?  We'll try to stay away from Columbus Day weekend and Daylight Normal time.  FYI-Rob and I are not available November 6-9 weekend, as that is our Investiture weekend for the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher down in Boston.

I also sent an email to the director, Kevin, at Camp Sentinel to ask about Fall weekends availability.  Awaiting his answer....

A few points of data:
1. Our capacity without using top bunks is currently projected at 36 total people - so attendees and team total.  Adding top bunks, we could get you to 50 total people.
2. If Cursillo takes care of their own food, the housing cost would be $25 per person, per night.
3. Attendees would need to bring their own bedding, towels, etc.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.
We can schedule a couple of visits to St. Joseph's with your retreat team to help with logistics and planning.

Good morning - my 2 cents - I say go for it!  I have been working in NH construction for the last 10 years.  Chances are there will be punch list items which need to be addressed (finish work, paint, ceiling tiles, etc), but that wont hamper the flow/atmosphere of the Cursillo. The only issue I see is if they run into the dreaded A word?.hopefully they did their due diligence and already had all those areas checked - flooring, window, roofing, insulation - so no surprises should arise. Not seeing their plans/construction schedule to include - HVAC, FA, life safety, structural, needs etc, my assumption is that they are getting positive feedback from the GCM/CM and are having weekly/biweekly meetings with substantial and final completion dates on targeted areas. My other assumption is that they will have to go through a State Fire Marshall inspection prior to allowing occupancy.  Sean might have an estimated date for that.

We had a nice time at Camp Sentinel, but there is value in moving to a Catholic, more centralized location, with grounds, etc.

Meals - we have done this in the past. It?s a great way to get other Cursillistas to help in the kitchen and volunteer their baked goods and/or meals. It helps people feel a part of the movement/weekend - might bring some life back to NH Cursillo.

When Davis and I handled the weekend in Ashland, we had so many volunteers.  We will have to do a bit of leg work reaching out early and get the interest up. Sign up opportunities on the website for kitchen help and/or food drop off, etc.

Weekends - Daylight/normal time, might not be so bad - gain an extra hour ??.

Kevin from Camp Sentinel has responded- two weekends available- Halloween/All Saints weekend (not a good one for clergy or trick or treaters...) and the weekend before, October 23-26.

Thanks for the responses so far from you.  I am also inclined to go with the Magdalen Center for the reasons given thus far from Amy and Sandy- what is the A word, Amy?? I'm not up on the construction lingo ??

Hi Claudette,

Thanks for doing this.   I noticed that Sean said "If Cursillo brings the food, then the cost would be $25.00 per person".    Did he mention if they  have a service that would provide the food (the 8 meals) and then what would the cost be?   We would supply the desserts and snacks and water.
As far as insurance goes, no matter where we book if they need an insurance rider,  the cost there would remain the same.  Just to find out the stay and food would be great.
As far as the dates, I guess it would depend on when  Kevin would be available too.
October 23-26 for the men...November 13-16 looks good for the ladies.  Both dates are still in the "fall" season.  Hopefully the rector/rectora would be available on those dates as well.
Also I noticed Sean suggested we come again to see the place, so if we (the secretariat) would be able to come to take a look at everything that would be great too!

Hi all,  This is a long email, but necessary, so please bear with me....

I have written to Sean Hoeing to address the questions we have discussed.  They are included in this email.
I will ask you to respond within 24 hours to vote to go forward with NH Cursillo weekends at the Magdalen Center, so that I can begin the process of asking potential rector/as with your suggestions of people to ask, as soon as I get a response from Sean re: these questions.  Remember, Rob was #8 in the queue for the Spring weekends, so hopefully one of the other men who were asked would be available for the Fall.  Any suggestions for rectors?  Same for rectoras-suggestions?

Weekends at Camp Sentinel are not good dates and the price has gone up a bit to $3700/weekend with minimum of 20 participants=$185 (we've been paying $175pp).  They sent along contracts to sign for October 23rd and 30th, but I haven't answered them yet since Halloween weekend is not good for us.  One weekend in November is iffy, too, but I think we're all in agreement that we'd like to host weekends on a Catholic site, so I am going to graciously decline their invitation, yes?  Warner campus is also a bit more accessible from many parts of the state, being located off of rte 89 via rte 93. ??

Good news!!  Len Campbell has agreed to come on board as the Post-Cursillo (4th Day) Coordinator.  I have discussed the position with him at length and we have a plan going forward, but I told him we will have to vote to accept his nomination to the Secretariat at our June meeting, so he will be on stand-by to join us around 6:15, after we vote.  I think he will be a wonderful addition to the Secretariat, as he is very well known throughout the state and he is very anxious to help NH Cursillo grow again, with all of our help.  He lived his Cursillo in Miami, FL about 50 years ago.??

Rob and Sandy and I had a great time at the Region 1 Cursillo Encounter last weekend.  3 wonderful rollos to contemplate...

1. "Cursillo is Jubilee"- Matt McSorley explained how Jesus is the fulfillment of the OT /present Church jubilee requirements and Cursillo brings Jesus to all, so we should all be living in Jubilee at all times!  Matt stressed the relativism that dominates our world today, and so we must bring the Truth to all, especially our young people who are craving something more important than self.
2.  Spiritual rollo given by Fr. Tom Gaughan on "Pilgrims of Hope."  Fr. Tom explained that Hope is a defining part of our humanity and as Cursillistas we must proclaim the Gospel to bring hope to all about Jesus' resurrection>salvation for all.  Hope is a grace that strengthens our ability to trust in God's will.
3.  "Exercise the Power of Love" was presented by Lou Lysonski.  After defining the three main words in her title, she connected them to piety, study, and action.  Exercising the power to love is our Apostolic Action.  She defined Action as "God's voice in motion."  Love that!! ?? She also discussed what true friendship is, that it is a vocation and it must be virtuous to be authentic.

The next Region 1 Encounter will be held in Seymour, CT (between Waterbury, New Haven, and Bridgeport) at the Parish of St. Nicholas, on September 27th.  It will be a one-day encounter with no overnight option, except for those traveling long distance.  I'm sure they'll look into special group rates for those who want to stay over.  They are asking for topics to present- any suggestions?

Happy Memorial Day weekend (although probably another soggy one...).  May we remember and pray for all who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in service to our country.  "No greater love is there, than to lay down one's life for one's friends." (John 15:13).   These men/women gave their all for so many that they didn't know at all.  May they rest in peace.  Amen.

Hi Sean,
I have spoken with the Secretariat and we have some questions for you:


  1.
 Three weekend dates have been identified as possibilities for NH Cursillo- 10/16-19, 10/23-26, and 11/13-16.  Are these dates available for NH Cursillo weekends?  We would only require two of these weekends, which would begin on Thursday around 2pm (for Team preparation of the space) and end on Sunday around 5pm (after the community closing).


  1.
If so, you have identified the cost at $25 per person per day if we supply the food and kitchen staff.  What would the cost be if you had 2 people prepare meals for us and you supply the food?  The team could assist with serving and cleaning up, if needed.  We could provide desserts and snacks for the weekend, so basically breakfast, simple lunch (soup and sandwich) and full course supper with a salad and main entree with veggies?

  2.
Would there be a minimum attendance #?

  3.
Will there be a contract with a deposit to sign?

  4.
Will we need to provide an insurance rider for use of the Center?

  5.
Where would our clergy be housed?  I understand you have a priest center, so would our priest/and or deacon(s) stay there or would you prefer they stay in Joseph house with the rest of the team and candidates?

  6.
We would like to have Mass in the chapel and we could use the smaller Adoration chapel in Joseph house for other spiritual activities.  Is that ok?

I think that's all the questions for now.  Thanks for your quick response so that we can make some decisions and begin the Team preparations for the Fall weekends.

Sean said the three proposed weekends are open and we can have any of those we want, so we will need to decide which two we should use for Fall weekends.

He doesn't think we will need to put a deposit down, but Rob Eib is checking into the insurance rider and Sean thinks we will need to procure one.

They don't have the possibility to provide food or kitchen staff right now, but there is a Market Basket nearby that does do platters, so we will have to think about either catering or providing staff for the meals.  So, $75 pp plus insurance and food are now on the table for the donation...I asked if a kitchen will be set up by then or can we use the kitchen in the Admin building if necessity becomes a reality.

He is checking into priest housing, but said they are welcome to stay with the team at Joseph House, and we can use both the small adoration chapel and the larger chapel for our activities.

Sean also said that some renovations are on hold until they procure funds from the sale of the Sarto Center, so please be praying for this sale to go forward.  They are installing new toilets in the rooms and rearranging bunk beds, but that's it for now...thus the question about a functioning kitchen by October...

He also said that Rob Eib would be writing up the appropriate agreement for the weekends, but he didn't think we'd need to put a deposit  down and there will be NO commitment for a minimum amount of people to attend.  Phew!!  That takes some pressure off with no minimum amount of people, but we will rely on the Holy Spirit to invite as many people as possible and that people accept the invitation.

Good morning all, Father Chris and I had a chance to speak after mass this morning about the Magdalene center and I have just put a call into Sean Hoeing to clarify what was meant by everything else for upgrades is on hold pending the sale of the Sarto Center. I would like definite clarification on the use of a kitchen up at the Magdalene center if we?re going to go forward with weekends.  Rob and I were talking and perhaps we should just do another statewide Fall day of reflection with a mass and Ultreya,  similar to what we did at IHM last October. That would be a nice way to introduce the community to the Magdalene center without having kitchen facilities. Thoughts?

Hi, all, I just spoke with Sean on the phone and he has assured me that we will have a kitchen to cook food for our fall weekends. It may not be the one in Joseph Hall, but the one in the admin building and in the one other building are functioning right now, so he has assured me that we will be able to use one or both of those.
